H.E. Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago

"I am pleased to offer my support to the establishment of the Anastasis Dialogue because it promotes a pastoral priority of both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI. I hope it will give all Christians a greater awareness of the theological, spiritual and ecclesial patrimony of the Eastern Churches, both Catholic and Orthodox. By receiving the Orientale Lumen, (the Light of the East), Latin Catholics, in particular, will appreciate even more profoundly the gift of catholicity with which Christ endowed his one Church. I invite all Catholics to support Holy Resurrection Monastery in this worthy cause."
A biography of Cardinal George can be found here. Ecumenical dialogue has been a hallmark of His Eminence's archepiscopacy. An especially memorable event, fully encapsulating everything that "spiritual ecumenism" is all about, was his ecumenical pilgrimage made jointly with Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago to Rome and Istanbul in February 1999.
